Inktober ’19

I follow a number of artists and one is Jake Parker, the creator of Inktober. The concept of Inktober is to complete one ink drawing everyday in the month of October. I decided to share this with my class and told my students if they’d try, so would I. We took a bulletin board wall at the entrance to the classroom and dedicated it to displaying every work completed for Inktober.
My personal concept for the challenge was to create a 5″x7″ scratchboard everyday (not the smartest of ideas as scratchboard is very labor intensive). Thematically I was taking Jake’s daily prompts and trying to relate them to a television show or movie. Some a direct illustration of the prompt some a little tongue and cheek, ie. Tasty.
As you can see I failed in completing a board for everyday, the end of the quarter grading falling in October did me in, but the attempt was worthwhile. The pressure of speed caused me to try a few new techniques, and tolerate not taking all the works to a polished finish. Some I really like some I just got done. I think it was good to show the kids it’s not always the outcome it’s the attempt that matters.
